How this works if you live in Glasgow

There is no office here. Advice is given by phone and video from 2 Charterhouse Mews in London, which is how most of it is given now and why where you live makes no difference to who can help you. Sunny Bharj and Tony Springer are the advisers, and you deal with the same one throughout.

The first conversation is free and takes about twenty minutes. If there is nothing useful we can do, we will say so.

Property here

The average home in Glasgow sold for £192,740, and the average first home for £173,624.

Scotland does not use Stamp Duty. Buying here means Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, collected by Revenue Scotland, and the bands sit at different points from the English ones. An affordability calculation copied from an English lender's website will give you the wrong number.

Land Registry UK House Price Index, June 2026. Averages move; yours is the number that matters.

A detached home around here at £499,951 uses up most of one person's inheritance tax allowance before anything else is counted. Whether your estate has a bill to pay depends on what sits alongside the house, and on whether the home is passing to your children.

Scottish income tax, and Scots succession law

Income tax. The Scottish Parliament sets the rates and bands for earned income, and they differ from the rest of the UK. Pension tax relief follows your marginal rate, so the same contribution is worth a different amount here than it would be in England. It is worth knowing which band you are actually in before deciding how much to pay in.

Succession. Scots law is its own system. A surviving spouse and children have rights to part of the estate that a will cannot simply remove, which is not how it works in England and Wales. A will drafted to an English template does not do the same job north of the border.

What we advise on

The same nine areas wherever you are. Pensions, investments, mortgages, protection, business protection, inheritance and succession, wills, tax planning and the financial plan that decides the order to do them in.
