Two people shaking hands

How the advice works

Six steps. The first two are free and you can stop after either of them with a written summary in your hand.

Nothing is arranged, moved or bought until you have seen the recommendation and the price in pounds.

The six steps

  1. 1

    We have a first conversation

Twenty minutes on the phone, free. You tell us what is on your mind: a pension you have lost track of, a fixed rate ending, a will you keep meaning to write. We say whether we can help.

    No charge for this
  2. 2

    We find everything you hold

The health check, and also free. About an hour going through your pensions, savings, investments, mortgage and cover. We chase down anything missing and write up what the lot is worth today. That summary is yours to keep whatever you decide.

    No charge for this
  3. 3

    We research the options

A week or two comparing what is available across the market against what you have told us you want, and testing the scenarios that matter to you. This is the first work you pay for, and we agree the price before starting.

  4. 4

We talk you through the recommendation

A meeting, and as long as you need. What we suggest, what it costs in pounds, what could go wrong with it, and what happens if you do nothing at all. You get time to go away and think.

  5. 5

    We set the plan up

Usually a few weeks. We handle the applications, deal with the providers and chase the slow ones, and tell you where things have got to without you having to ask.

  6. 6

We review the plan every year

If you take ongoing advice. Sooner if you change jobs, move house, inherit, get ill or sell a business. Ongoing advice is optional and you can stop it.

Free, and you can stop after either Chargeable, and priced before it starts

What the advice costs

There are three ways advice gets paid for. Which one applies depends on the work, and you get the figure in pounds before anything starts.

Steps one and two
Free, and no invoice follows them.
An agreed fee
A stated amount for a stated piece of work. Common on planning.
Commission from a provider
On mortgages and protection the provider pays us. We tell you how much before you decide.
A percentage of the money
On investments and pensions, for setting things up and for ongoing advice. Ask us for it in pounds on your own figure.
Ongoing advice
Optional. You can stop it and the charge stops with it.
When you pay
After the advice is agreed, never before, and never for an amount you have not already seen.

Questions people ask us

How long does the whole thing take?

The first call is twenty minutes and the health check about an hour. Recommendations usually follow within a fortnight. What slows it down is providers sending information about what you already hold, which can take weeks and is largely out of our hands.

Do I have to take all of it?

No. Plenty of people come with one question, get it answered and leave it there.

Can I stop after the health check?

Yes, and some people do. You keep the written summary either way.

Can I stop ongoing advice later?

Yes, whenever you want, and the charge stops with it.

Who actually gives the advice?

Buzz Financial Services is a trading style of Equity & General Financial Services Limited, which holds the FCA permissions and answers for the advice. You can look the firm up on the Financial Services Register under number 474163.
