Your Legal & General pension

Legal & General runs workplace pensions, two master trusts, a personal pension and annuities. Your charge is in your annual statement. It makes no charge for taking income or transferring, and its drawdown plan takes a full transfer of your pot, which can lose protected tax-free cash.

Who runs it

Legal and General Assurance Society Limited, on the FCA register under firm reference number 117659, part of Legal & General Group plc. It also runs the Legal & General WorkSave Mastertrust, authorised by The Pensions Regulator.

What it charges

A workplace pension carries an annual management charge for administration and a fund charge that depends on the funds you hold. Your annual management charge is in your benefit statement or joining documents, and fund charges are on the fund factsheets.

Legal & General says it does not charge for taking income or lump sums, switching investments or transferring to another provider. Its Personal Pension Drawdown plan charges 0.25% a year plus fund charges.

Taking money out

Older policies with Legal & General

Protected tax-free cash and protected pension age

Legal & General warns that transferring your whole pension out may lose any protected tax-free cash, and a part transfer loses it on the amount moved.

Some of its products protect the right to take benefits at 55 after the minimum pension age rises to 57 in April 2028. A transfer can lose that too.

Moving it to another provider

If your scheme allows it, you can transfer to another registered UK pension at any time and Legal & General makes no charge. A part transfer, where allowed, must be at least £2,000 and leave at least £100 behind.

A pension that lets you take money at 55 after the age rises to 57 carries a right that a transfer can throw away.
